Sky’s door 7 Min. (2016- Fiction)
The short film Sky’s Door explores the relationship between mother and son through poetic, silent scenes in a rural setting in Luxor. The film does not provide answers to these questions, but by watching the ‘mother’ accompanied by music from the Egyptian Sinai tradition, we understand that her relationship with her deceased son is still very much alive and present in the simple details of her daily life. The term ‘The Door of Heaven’ is derived from the Arabic Islamic heritage. Muslims believe that the sky has ‘doors’ through which livelihoods, rain, and spirits come and go.
The film was produced in 2016 in a workshop with Ethiopian American filmmaker Haile Grima.
