All women are workers 8 Min. (2016- Documentary)

In collaboration with the New Woman Foundation, Dr Salwa Al-Antary book ‘Estimating Women’s Unpaid Domestic Work in Egypt’ has been transformed into a documentary film. The objective of the film is to estimate the actual contribution of women to economic activity in Egypt by measuring and valuing the hours of unpaid domestic work they do. According to the System of National Accounts (SNA), to which all UN member states are committed, unpaid domestic work is excluded as not representing market-oriented economic activity. This means that a significant part of women’s actual contribution to economic activity, while important to the well-being of society as a whole, remains unrecognized and unvalued. This also means that the overall contribution of women to the economy is underestimated, which in itself hurts women’s social status and their ability to participate in decision-making.
